Protect Photographs & Important Documents with a Fire Resistant Personal Safe
No one plans for a fire or catastrophe to take place in their home. When something of that sort does happen, it’s the family photographs that one mourns over. Equally upsetting is the loss of important documents like passports, birth certificates as well as home, auto, boat and life insurance policies. Certainly, these items can be stored in a safe deposit box in the bank, but that can be quite inconvenient. An easier and relatively inexpensive solution is to keep photographs and important documents at home in a fire resistant personal safe.
Having a safe that is fire resistant is usually a main concern of homeowners. Fire resistant safes are rated according to what they will protect and for how long they will need to protect the contents (for most 30 minutes is typical). For example, if you will be storing papers, the rating of the fire resistant personal safe cannot exceed 350° F. Items like tapes and film negatives should be in a safe that has a limit of 150°F. The temperature rating will be noted on the UL label located on the safe.
Theft protection is a little different when it comes to personal safes. The majority of home safes don’t carry a rating for burglary protection. They do, however, provide some deterrence for thieves. And as we’ve seen and heard, robbers can be discouraged by safes with the Locksmith Dealers of America (LSDA) brand. Do yourself a favor. Get a safe that is not easily pried open, and protects your invaluable documents.
